On Tuesday, January 22, 2013, HealthyPlace.com launched a campaign called “Stand Up for Mental Health”. The goal of this campaign is to work towards shattering the stigma of mental illness by encouraging people to share their personal stories in hopes that others will “stand up” and share their stories as well. You can read more information about the campaign “here”
Even though there have been some positive changes in the way mental health is viewed by others, there are still many people who are hiding the truth of their situation because they are afraid or ashamed. This act of keeping silent can affect an individual’s self-esteem and their ability to recover.
I am joining along with HealthyPlace.com and am Standing Up for Mental Health by contributing my story about my son’s mental illness crisis. You can find it here: “Disclosing my Child’s Mental Illness”.
While you are on the site, take a few minutes to read the other stories submitted by people just like me, who are ready and willing to openly share their journey so that others can feel safe to open up and share their own.
I am grateful for the part that HealthyPlace.com is playing in keeping the conversation of mental health in the spotlight! And am thankful that I am able to have a continuing role in this on-going conversation!
Thank you all for your support, your stories and your feedback!
