Sitting with the warm sun on my face, a breeze brushes the hair into my eyes, and suddenly a crow calls in the yard next door. I love to connect with the experiences I’m having as I take a few moments to get present in the energy of the upcoming full solar eclipse. This eclipse is set to cut right across the middle of the United States.
I’m not in an area that will witness totality. Personally, I didn’t have any desire to travel to a place that is, as I’m feeling the need to go inward and be quiet during this time. Whether you follow astrology or not and no matter where you are in the world, it’s hard to deny how cool this experience will be. And honestly, from an energetic perspective, this eclipse is said to have a powerful impact on us all regardless of location.
It is said that eclipses mark the ending and beginning of cycles. The lunar eclipse of two weeks ago signified endings. And endings often feel like loss. For me, this entire year has been a series of enormous losses and endings. My marriage has been a major loss for me (no surprise that the paperwork to dissolve this union was accepted by the courts on the day of the lunar eclipse) With my marriage came the loss of my home, with the west facing windows, amazing sunsets and view of the San Francisco Bay.
I also felt a loss to my identity: Married to It’s Complicated to Separated to Divorced. During this time, I also lost some friendships, others were recalibrated. The culmination of these losses came just days before the lunar eclipse when a close sister-friend succumbed to cancer. Her death was heartbreaking itself but shortly before she passed, I found that there was something I had done to hurt her. She was angry and left this life before we could make amends.
Loss
I know I’m not the only one here. I have spoken to many clients and friends who have experienced big losses this year. Interesting enough, many of these losses have come over the past several weeks as well.
The time between the eclipses is sometimes called the Bardo, the state in which we’ve lost our old reality and it is no longer available to us. (In Tibetan writings, the Bardo often refers to the afterlife and the space between lives.) So, if we are in this time between, what comes next? Since the lunar eclipse signifies endings, the solar eclipse then as a counter is the birth point of new beginnings.
Exhale
If you’ve been experiencing deep loss and change in your life (and even if you haven’t), take moment right now and take a deep breath. Feel your hands and feet – can you bring your awareness to one, the other or both? Then let out your breath with a huge, audible sigh. As I like to say “Rinse, Repeat”. None of us can predict what is going to happen next in our lives. Nope, not even an Intuitive. That would take the fun out of experiencing this journey for ourselves.
Here’s what we do know. The full solar eclipse will mark new beginnings for each of us and for the global community as a whole. Some beginnings are fun, exciting and filled with ease. Others start out difficult, painful and even confusing (think childbirth y’all!) No matter how these beginnings present themselves for us personally and as a collective, life is encouraging us to release resistance, release attachment to the outcomes and trust that everything we’ve been through has led us to a place where riding the waves can be just a little easier (Need a little more support with this? See Exhale above).
Reach out
You don’t have to “do” this life alone. If you haven’t done so already, identify who is in your circle, your community. Feel like there is no one? There is a whole community of like-minded people here on the Facebook page. Reach out. Lean in. Ask for help. Offer your hand, your heart, your shoulder. Here’s my hand, take it if you need a little support along this part of your path.
Experience the eclipse
Finally, wherever you are during tomorrow’s eclipse, find a few minutes at or around the time the eclipse is occurring (you can find out what time it’s occurring by visiting this site here) and set an intention for what comes next in your life. Dream BIG. No holds barred. Release the losses that you’ve experienced this year. Bless them and let them go. And don’t forget to feel the connectedness of all of us + many, many others coming together for the purpose of experiencing this powerful event.
Sending you all Big Love!
